The Sports Kenya team joined the County Government of Nyeri, stakeholders, residents and marathoners at the 2nd Edition of the Wahome Gakuru Marathon on Sunday in Nyeri town. The team represented the organization in the 10 km race in third position. Leonard Langat and Vibian Chepkorir won the 21Km races each bagging a cash prize of Ksh 100,000
The marathon which was inaugurated last year by sports kenya commemorates the Late Dr. Wahome Gakuru who passed on November 7th 2017 through a road accident.
Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who was the chief guest, said the race is attracting runners from other counties such as Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Nakuru, which is a great form of tourism as these runners spend and visit the county, boosting our economy.
This year’s marathon theme was ‘Enhancing Emergency Response’ and proceeds the event will be used to build an emergency response unit at the Nyeri County Referral Hospital
